Inſtruments

I ordered a harpſichord by Andrea Reſtelli (for 2025) which will be baſed on different advertiſements of harpſichords made by Zacharias Hildebrandt (active in Leipzig between 1730 and 1750). The goal is to have a so-called Orcheſterflügel or Concertflügel, words uſed in 18th century to describe particularly big harpſichords which were intended for public performance (like a "concert grand piano"). Orcheſterflügel had the manual compass extended down to the note CC or they had a ſeparate 16' ſtop as a fourth ſtop. Some harpſichords even had both. Hildebrandt was amongſt the builders who combined both. My harpſichord will be ſuch a model. No ſuch big harpſichord is reported to have ſurvived. The Reſtelli harpſichord will be inſpired by 2 Hildebrandt harpſichords offered in the Leipziger Intelligenzblatt 04.10.1775 and Bey Carl Chriſtian Heinrich Roſt in seiner Handlung in Auerbachs Hofe zu Leipzig (...), Oſtermesse 1779.
The harpſichord will have the ſtops 16' and 8' on the lower manual, 8' and 4' on the upper with a naſal on the upper 8'. The manual compaſs will be CC-f'''.
